The largest of the Channel Islands blends British and French culture, reflecting its location between the two countries. While it’s just a short 40 minutes air hop (or longer ferry ride) from the south of England, once you arrive, you’ll feel a world away. Beaches, walking trails, shops, restaurants, a zoo, museums and some unique WWII themed attractions make it a great alternative to some of the more mainstream continental summer holiday spots. Whether staying for a night or two or planning a longer break, there are many super luxury and spa hotels to be sampled.
Club Hotel And Spa
Found in Jersey’s capital, St Helier, the Michelin starred restaurant at the Club Hotel draws guests from near and far. Bohemia serves theatrical tasting menus in art deco surroundings, with plant-based and pescatarian options, while more casual meals and afternoon tea can be taken in the bar. An underground spa is also a highlight, with its saltwater pool, thermal suite, rasul mud chamber and an array of organic treatments, plus there’s a palm-fringed kidney-shaped outdoor pool with loungers. Rooms at the Club Hotel are smart and classic, complete with Elemis toiletries, nightly turndown treats and Frette linens.
Grand Jersey Hotel And Spa
Also in St Helier, the Grand Jersey Hotel overlooks St Aubin’s Bay. Dating back to the late 1800s, it’s one of the oldest hotels on the island, keeping watch over Elizabeth castle from its vantage point. The original staircase rising from the lobby has been maintained, while an internal staircase is complemented by an enormous 30ft light installation. Inside are two restaurants, the more formal Tassili and a bistro, Victoria’s Brasserie, as well as a champagne bar and an Elemis spa. Outside is a terrace grill. The hotel has five stars and 123 bedrooms.
La Haule Manor
If you’re seeking something a little more bijou and intimate, check out La Haule Manor. The facade of this building originated in 1796, an era that’s mirrored in its lavish aristocratic interiors. Most of the 16 bedrooms afford views of the sea, with suites offering balconies and roll-top baths. The interiors echo Rococo style in the main, with plenty of antiques and breakfast is taken in a more contemporary designed room. Outside, guests can swim in a heated pool (during the spring and summer). Both St. Aubin town and Beauport Beach are within walking distance and there’s a shuttle service to the airport.
