Aberfeldy Launches 24-Year-Old Single Malt Finished in White Port Casks

Aberfeldy 24-Year-Old White Port Double Cask, a single malt finished in a White Port cask, is the latest addition to the distillery’s Exceptional Cask Series.

After more than two decades in the warehouse, the whisky was moved into carefully selected White Port casks from Portugal’s Douro Valley for its closing stretch, the finish lending citrus peel, stone fruit and a gentle nuttiness over the top of Aberfeldy’s signature honeyed sweetness. White Port is pressed from white grapes rather than red and often served young and lightly chilled as an aperitif in Porto. It carries far less of the dark, jammy fruit of ruby and tawny styles and a good deal more citrus and orchard freshness, which is what makes it such a natural fit for a summer bottling and for Aberfeldy’s floral, honeyed character.

Stephanie Macleod, renowned Malt Master at Aberfeldy says, “The choice of White Port casks was a deliberate one. Port cask maturation is often known for bringing a lively character to whisky, but White Port offers something particularly fresh and vibrant. Rich in notes of citrus peel, stone fruits and delicate nuttiness, the casks complement rather than overpower Aberfeldy’s signature honeyed style, creating an expression that feels bright, elegant and perfectly suited to the season

The whisky joins the Exceptional Cask Series, Aberfeldy’s home for its rarest single-cask and double-cask experiments, each one hand-selected by Malt Master Stephanie Macleod.

Aberfeldy 24-Year-Old White Port Double Cask is bottled at 50.7% ABV, with just 252 bottles filled and an RRP of £350. It is available now, exclusively from Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery online store.
