Found in the northeast of Thailand, bordering Laos to the east, this is the fifth-largest province in Thailand. Ubon Ratchathani (Ubon for short) hosts an annual Candle Festival, which takes place in July or August. It features elaborate wax sculptures and parades, celebrating the beginning of Buddhist Lent, and attracts thousands of visitors. Ubon is also home to several notable temples and historical sites, including Wat Phra That Nong Bua, a 13th-century Buddhist temple with a golden stupa and Pha Taem National Park, which features stunning rock formations, waterfalls and ancient rock paintings.
