Best Luxury Hotels Near the Spanish Steps in Rome

These Rococo style steps were built in the period between 1723 and 1726 designed in 1723 by Francesco De Sanctis and funded by a French diplomat. Leading from the Piazza di Spagna square to the 16th-century French monastery church Trinita dei Monti, the 135 steps are spread over three different terraces, representing the Holy Trinity. Climb to the top and you’ll be afforded gorgeous views; and visit in April for the added beauty of a sea of azalea flowers in bloom. Many walking tours begin and end here and it’s a meeting place, but be aware that you will not be allowed to sit or eat on the steps. Close to the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon this district makes for a convenient base.
