Fully Crewed Superyachts

Being on the water is magical; especially when taking that well-earned holiday with friends and loved ones. Yet the chances are you’re not a skipper, you’ve never sailed, and you are not qualified to take the helm of a shiny, multi-million euro motor yacht. Well, that’s not a problem, as Goolets, the yacht charter company specialising in the world’s leading yachting destinations (including the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Aegean, and Adriatic) offer spectacular yachts, gulets, and motor yachts that are fully crewed.

Croatia Calling

This summer we headed to Croatia to meet Goolets and cruise aboard one of their flagship vessels, Freedom superyacht. There are 11 cabins that can be fairly described as sumptuous; some with dressings rooms and bathrooms that boasted double showers and huge bathtubs, which could put many hotel suites to shame. Upper decks offered sea view accommodation, dining and living areas, while lower deck spaces included the yacht’s cavernous cinema, sophisticated massage treatment room, and even a sauna! The top deck has an open air bar, sunbeds, hot tub, plunge pool, as well as a gym with panoramic views. Expect A/C and Wi-Fi throughout the yacht.

Flawless Service

The flawless service begins as soon as you arrive at Split’s sparkling new airport. One is whisked in air-conditioned comfort in a limousine directly from the airport to the port, where the uniformed crew are waiting to greet you with a cool, fresh scented face cloth.

In the main salon, complete with pristine white sofas and even a white piano, there is a cocktail bar where the bartender will create a refreshing welcome drink to perfectly suit your taste.

Then it’s time to head to your cabin. We were in one of the master cabins, a spectacular space with kind size bed, chaise longue, desk, seating area, walk-in wardrobe and dressing room, and a large ensuite bathroom with double shower and corner bath tub. This is the holiday lifestyle of Freedom superyacht!

With sleek, elegant lines, Freedom has an extraordinary amount of space. At almost 50 metres long, with a beam of 9 metres and four sumptuous decks, there is space for everyone in your group to find their favourite place.

Whether that’s for a tranquil, wellness retreat vibe, or a lively party atmosphere – you choose, this is your luxury, floating playground.

Cruise with Friends & Family

So, if you can bring together plenty of friends or find another family or two to join you, then you could be cruising the Adriatic like a member of the world’s 1 per cent. Now part of the EU, Croatia joined on terms that allowed it to keep larger motor yachts, with 11 cabins, meaning a private group of 22 guests can travel together, cruising the Adriatic. That compares very favourably with the standard EU limit of 12 guests on a standard yacht charter. This means that in Croatia there is a new class of ‘super yacht’ like Freedom, which can accommodate extended families or a larger group of friends in pampered privacy for charter fees that are noticably less than for traditional superyachts.

The iconic Zlatni Rat Golden Horn beach, Croatia

The Adriatic is most definitely on the world’s gold list of yachting destinations, with the coast of the Balkan peninsula having emerged as a sophisticated destination for contemporary yachting. Little wonder, when you consider just how spectacular the scenery is, how beautiful are the coastal towns and cities and how calm the waters are between the islands, making cruising a real pleasure.

Dalmatian Coast

The Dalmatian coast of Croatia retains much of the quintessential beauty and allure we associate with a bygone Mediterranean era, with its history of kings, pirates and merchants, rich architectural styles from Romanesque to Renaissance, and unspoilt bays and coves. There’s blockbuster ports-of-call too, like Dubrovnik (well and truly on the pilgrimage route for Game of Thrones fans) and surprising coastal cities like Split with a wealth of history hidden behind ancient city walls. Then of course there’s the unmissable islands of Hvar, as well as Korčula, birthplace of Marco Polo, and the quaint appeal of Vis, used as a film location for Mamma Mia Here We Go Again. Our itinerary share some spectacular highlights of the region, starting and ending in Split. This port city was a delight to explore and is well worth a guided tour.

Gastronomic Journey

Once on board Goolets Freedom, life feels even far more cosseted than in a luxe boutique resort or in a chic villa rental with a butler. Here it’s white glove service from breakfast ‘till late, thanks to a young, friendly, and experienced crew, who despite their hard work always seem to remain impeccably presented in uniforms that change with the time of day from crisp day whites to dinner service black.

Every meal is chef-prepared with top-notch ingredients and served with fine-dining presentation, including beautiful table settings, from artistic sea shells and drift wood to fresh orchids and crystals. It is fine dining every day.

The crew were standout. The whole team combined discretion and professionalism with genuine warmth and friendliness. We were lucky to also have a concierge aboard who was an expert in the area, able to suggest the best itinerary including a visit to the iconic Zlatni Rat beach close to the town of Bol on the island of Brac, as well as having privileged contacts to make on-shore reservations for the best dining and nightlife along the route.

Water Toys

When it comes to playing in the clear waters of the Adriatic, you can forget about a modest inflatable lilo or floating in the sun with a couple of foam noodles. Here an abundance of innovative playthings keep privileged guests amused.

Start off gently with a stand-up paddle board or kayak and then for a surge of adrenaline the crew will bring out the electric water toys. Deckhands will show you the ropes, so within minutes you’ll be having fun on a jet ski, or gliding below the water surface, up to 20kph, with your arms over a seabob underwater scooter. Then try your luck with the hydrofoil, controlled with a handheld remote so you can ‘fly’ over the water.

The menu of water toys includes:
