Top 10 best luxury hotel brands in the world
Over the past decades, the world of luxury hospitality has expanded at an extraordinary pace, with new five-star — and often self-proclaimed six- and seven-star — hotels appearing in almost every corner of the globe. For passionate travelers, this abundance is a gift: more choice, more design innovation, and more extraordinary destinations than ever before. Yet in reality, only a select group of hotel brands consistently delivers the level of refinement, authenticity, and emotional impact that truly defines modern luxury travel. In this article, I explore the top 10 best luxury hotel brands in the world, based on consistency, global footprint, service excellence, design identity, wellness offerings, gastronomy, and sustainability.
My personal favorite hotel brand remains Soneva, whose barefoot luxury philosophy and Maldivian resorts are, in my view, unmatched. However, because Soneva operates only three resorts in the Maldives, I have excluded it from this ranking to maintain a more global perspective. Instead, I have applied a simple but admittedly arbitrary rule: only hotel brands with at least 10 properties worldwide are included. This ensures a fair comparison between truly international hospitality groups that shape luxury travel at scale.
There is more information (with reviews and YouTube videos) below the slide show. Do you agree or do you have a favorite hotel brand that didn’t make my list? Leave a comment.
10. St. Regis
St. Regis is one of the flagship luxury hotel brands within the Marriott International portfolio, alongside The Ritz-Carlton. Rooted in a rich heritage and designed for discerning travelers seeking the finest experiences, the brand helped define modern luxury hospitality with the opening of The St. Regis New York in 1904. Commissioned by John Jacob Astor IV, the Beaux-Arts landmark on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue set new standards for elegance, service, and innovation. Since then, St. Regis has remained synonymous with refined sophistication and highly personalized service. Its signature Butler Service — offered at every property worldwide — continues to be a defining feature of the brand more than a century later. Today, with more than 30 hotels and resorts across the globe, St. Regis seamlessly blends timeless glamour with contemporary luxury, delivering exceptional and consistently elevated guest experiences.
