We have been lucky to explore and enjoy many of the capital of Thailand’s best luxury accommodation options on our various trips to Thailand and we have now curated what we feel are the best of the best that suit various different types of luxury traveller which we have presented below.
Four Seasons Bangkok at Chao Phraya River
Conveniently located, overlooking the Chao Phraya River, this city centre hotel is a hub of energy and style. Throughout the hotel and grounds lush courtyards and water features bring a sense of calm whilst each guest room and spacious suite boasts sophisticated interiors and hi-tech amenities. Dining here is an exquisite experience with a choice of superb restaurants and bars; from the glamour of BKK Social Club through to the Riverfront French Brasserie guests are sure to find the perfect match for any taste or occasion. The spa and wellness centre offers a haven of tranquillity and with a choice of infinity pool and lap pools guests can soak and swim whilst taking in the stunning views across the city. This riverside resort is the perfect Bangkok bolthole.
Waldorf Astoria
The famed Waldorf Astoria hotels began life in New York in the late 1800s and since then the group has built a reputation for top service and sumptuous elegance at locations across the globe – the Waldorf Astoria Bangkok is no exception.Architect André Fu designed this hotel with bronze accents and soaring ceilings, reflecting the opulence and grandeur of the original Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City and cleverly blends Thai charm with luxurious comfort throughout the iconic hotel. Rooms are sumptuous and offer park or city views, indulgent relaxation facilities are available for each guest to enjoy and the culinary fare and two glamorous sky bars attract visitors on their own merit.Located in the Siam Ratchadamri area of Bangkok, on the ultra-modern Magnolias Ratchadamri Boulevard, this is a great base for business and leisure travellers alike.
The Westin Bangkok
Stay in a four-star Marriott property close to Lumpini Park and Pratunam Market: The Westin Sukhumvit offers rooms with blackout curtains, free newspapers and movies, optional babysitting services, toiletries and minibars. Guests can dine on sophisticated Japanese cuisine at the Kisso restaurant, or buffet food at Taste. Horizons Sky Lounge is a drinking spot with views across the city and karaoke, if you’re in the mood to belt out a tune. There’s a full-service spa – or treatments can be arranged in-room – as well as a fitness centre, an outdoor pool area with a bar and an onsite gift shop for souvenir purchases to take home.
The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon
In receipt of the AHEAD Award for the Best Hotel New Build in Asia, this 155-room forward-thinking flagship property features immersive designs by Jamie Hayon and The Standard’s in-house team. It boasts the highest alfresco rooftop bar in the capital, as well as top venues; The Parlor (great for live music, lectures and lounging), an alternative tea room named Tease, an American steakhouse, an award-winning Chinese cuisine by Mott 32, and the super funky, boldly decorated Ojo Mexican-inspired restaurant. Plush, pet-friendly bedrooms have a retro vibe, as well as Nespresso Machines and Bang & Olufsen Bluetooth Speakers.
The Landmark Bangkok
Soaring 31 storeys from the ground, The Landmark has 399 forms of five-star accommodation in which muted dark hues and crisp white linens are used alongside rich silk fabrics. Expect authentic and warm Thai hospitality here, paired with Western-style interiors. The Viva Jive Spa is found on the hotel’s ninth floor, next to the outdoor pool. Those staying in a club room or suite gain access to the exclusive top-floor 180° Club Lounge, offering complimentary drinks, snacks and super high-speed internet. Nine eateries provide guests at The Landmark with an abundance of culinary choices — from a bakery to a traditional British pub and a steakhouse to a dim sum restaurant.
Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit
The second of Marriott’s high-end properties in the city, this one isn’t far from The Westin, in the district of Wattana. Its Octave Rooftop Restaurant is the place to go for dinner and craft cocktails with a view of the Bangkok skyline. Or if you fancy a juicy steak, take a table at the award-winning District Grill Room and Bar. Alternatively, you can tuck into Thai food at 57th Street, light meals at the Azure Pool Lounge and indulgent puds at the Chocolate Cake Company. Rooms are light and airy, with deep soaking tubs beside picture windows (providing a birds’ view of the local area) found in higher grade suites.
Shangri La Bangkok
Located on the banks of Chao Phraya River, Shangri-La Bangkok is undoubtedly one of the most luxurious hotels in the capital. It’s a 5-star hotel offering excellent value, convenience, as well as stunning interior design. Guests enjoy eclectic views of the river, while many of the bedrooms are strategically located by the quieter poolside. This is perfect for those who prefer large-scale hotels – Shangri-La has a whopping 802 rooms housed in two adjacent towers, the Shangri-La Wing and Krungthep Wing. Set in a prime area close to Bangkok central business district, just next to the sky train at Saphan Taskin BTS station, it’s ideally suiting those visiting for work. Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok is less than 40 minutes away from Suvarnabhumi International Airport.
The Siam
The Siam is surrounded by historical places, museums and notable Bangkok temples, offering sightseeing convenience. The luxurious hotel is set on 3 acres of privately owned premium river frontage – the River of Kings. It has a total of 39 guestrooms and is characterized by an oriental allure along with contemporary comforts. Designed by two world-renowned architects, Bill Bensley and Krissada Sukusol, The Siam offers one of the largest suites in Bangkok, as well as open roof terraces, private pool villas and a sumptuous spa. Eating here is an unforgettable experience, with the hotel providing exclusive dining services on its teakwood houses. Plus guests can take a trip on the river, watching Bangkok by boat from the private piers while sipping on one of The Siam’s irresistible cocktails.
The Peninsula
The Peninsula has established itself as one of the best hotels in Bangkok. It’s won many awards over the years, including the ‘World’s Best Hotel’ back in 2003. The hotel is conveniently situated at the banks of river Chao Phraya. A wavy design characterises The Peninsula, and its beautiful form offers a panoramic view of Bangkok City. The hotel is located about 35 minutes from Don Muang International Airport. The 39 Peninsula guestrooms are among the most technologically advanced rooms in Bangkok. Guests can control their environments with the push of a button. And families revel in the space provided by staying in one of the Sky Residences, offering a two-floor private oasis. The unique Paribatra Aviation Lounge on the 37th floor comes with its own helipad for travel in ultimate style.
Siam Kempinski
As part of the Kempinski Group of hotels, this is one of the newer 5-star hotels in Bangkok. It was established in 2010, designed by Hirsch Bedner Associates and is located at the heart of Bangkok. The hotel has a touch of European contemporary sophistication alongside many Thai-themed services and cuisine. The Siam Kempinski has 42 suites and a total of 303 rooms, in addition to the 98 serviced residences. The meeting rooms offer an impressive welcome to delegates – each is accessed via an ornate golden brass door. There’s also a sumptuous spa, three dining areas, bar and gorgeous outdoor pool. But its highlight has to be the green royal garden accessed right from the balconies of the rooms.
InterContinental Bangkok
Located at the centre of the business district, the InterContinental Bangkok is ideal for both leisure and business travellers seeking a truly cosmopolitan place to stay. It is located adjacent to the Chidlom BTS Sky Train Station, just a short walking distance from the central business district. And with proximity to the country’s best medical centre, is often used by those visiting for procedures or cosmetic work. InterContinental Bangkok offers a great sense of welcoming space with its graceful interior décor, as well as none dining options, from a casual espresso cafe to the grand Summer Palace. Guests enjoy excellent service from the staff and the peaceful Buddhist culture is heavily promoted.
The Sukhothai Bangkok
The Sukhothai Bangkok takes you back to the bygone age as it combines the contemporary style and the old world palatial charm. Designed by Kerry Hill and Edward Tuttle, the sophisticated interiors pay homage to the ancient capital of Thailand. It stands on a 6-acre piece of land, including a charming expansive lotus pond with a relaxing ambience. Each of the 210 rooms has its own lounge area and balcony overlooking either the pond or pool with some offering grand pianos and four-poster beds. The hotel specialises in offering personalised services. The Sukhothai Bangkok also has a tennis court, spa, hot tub and three world-class restaurants providing exceptional wining and dining experiences. Be sure to sample the decadent chocolate buffet available every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Como Bangkok
Como Bangkok is Thailand’s capital hotspot. It has an Asian aesthetic that has been combined with contemporary urban styles. The hotel is known for its award-winning cuisines served in the two funky restaurants and its holistic spa. And it has what is often cited as the best lounge bar in Bangkok – the chic Met Bar – making it the place to be seen and party till dawn. But Como Bangkok is also ideal for a demanding traveller who looks for exceptional and accurate service. The hotel has 169 rooms, two presidential suites, and four penthouses, all of which were created by Kathryn King, an interior designer based in Singapore. Many have their own yoga mates, private patio area, outdoor showers, dining room and even 24/7 butler service.
Banyan Tree
Banyan Tree Bangkok stands out in the city, primarily because of its destination spa – the tallest in Asia found on the 51st and the 54th floors. It’s a true sanctuary where you can rejuvenate all the senses and enjoy a range of holistic treatments. The Banyan Hotel is located at the heart of Bangkok business district, close to the shopping in downtown Bangkok. It offers a gourmet tour taking you to the capital’s excellent dining spots like the Vertigo Grill on the 61st floor, one of the world’s highest restaurants. Stay in one of its 327 with views of the city or Chaophraya. And if space is your priority, book one of the biggest suites in the city – the Horizon Rooms.
JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok
A foodie’s dream, the JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok located 5 minutes’ walk from Phloen Chit Skytrain station, offers eight avenues of cuisine. Featuring foods from all over the world, the hotel has some of the best chefs in the world receiving many accolades over the years. Its wonderful function suites make it a perfect destination for events such as large weddings, with plenty of space for guests in the 441 rooms, spread over 24 floors. The JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok health club has a wide range of activities alongside holistic treatments at the spa and a palm-lined outdoor pool.
Mandarin Oriental
This is a brand and hotel that needs no introduction. The Mandarin Oriental Bangkok dates back to 1876 and sits on the banks of the Chao Phraya River in the historical Charoenkrung district. With 4.5 staff to each and every guest, nine restaurants a spa (which is accessed via romantic boat trip across the river) an entire team of pastry chefs, a flower team, butlers and more, your every wish is granted. There are 393 rooms and eight restaurants, and in 2016 it underwent large renovations unveiling a whole new wing, paying homage to its illustrious past. These interiors by Design Wilkes are truly regal and ornate, making this hotel the pinnacle of luxury hospitality.
W Bangkok
One of the newer offerings in Bangkok the W Hotel brand in Bangkok’s Sathorn business district has its finger most definitely on the pulse, with interiors designed by Soda and Avroko. “Casual luxury” is at the heart of this brand and it works flawlessly. Cutting edge technology and little surprise finishing touches keep the 403 rooms a cut above the competition, whilst the bar is jumping in the evening giving the hotel a fun and funky approach to luxury accommodation. The Away Spa is also one of the best in the city. A highlight here is the famed epic brunch – it’s so vast diners are given a map of the buffet on entry. This is a popular choice for younger travellers seeking a luxury up to date experience. We loved every minute of our time at the W and we know you will too!
Centara Grand At Central World
For the traveller who likes sleek modern luxury in a super convenient post-code, then the Centara Grand at Central World is the place to stay. One of Asia Pacific’s largest hotels, it has everything you need for complete relaxation, including an epic roof terrace bar to watch sunsets in style with a glass of champagne. There are four restaurants, 505 rooms, tennis courts, a huge outdoor pool, and medical service on-site. Do make sure to visit the divine spa and eat dinner at Red Sky’s raw buffet. Centara Grand is perfect for those needing everything under one roof – stay here and you’ll feel totally cosseted throughout your time away.
Park Hyatt
This hotel may be located in the centre of Bangkok’s entertainment district but it offers pure tranquillity. Relax in a comfortable lounger or private cabana by a saltwater infinity pool overlooking the terrace garden and skyscrapers of the city. Panoramic views are provided through floor-to-ceiling picture windows in 222 rooms and 32 suites, the smallest of which starts at 48 square metres. Work out 24-hours a day at level 11’s fitness centre with more stunning vistas to be enjoyed, or escape to the sanctuary of the hotel’s organic spa for luxurious treatments. The team here pride themselves on discrete and sincere service when nothing is too much trouble.
Le Meridien
This funky 5-star hotel is just a stone’s throw from the dynamic Patpong night market and dazzling entertainment of the city. It’s easily accessed with it’s proximity to the MRT station and provides the contrast of a relaxing award-winning Spa complete with sensory rituals, and the exciting vibe of its Silom location. Visitors arriving for destination weddings and corporate gatherings find themselves suitably impressed by the high ceilinged refined function rooms and delicious culinary creations. With art inspired suites overlooking the old and the new of this historic city., Le Meridien is the hotel of choice for the cultured traveller.
The St Regis
Those keen to explore the shopping opportunities in this dynamic city will appreciate The St Regis’ location at the commercial district’s heart, Rajadamri Road. Sheraton Grand Sukhumvit
This luxury collection hotel has what is arguably the grandest frontage in the city. It’s vast, almost village-like, comprising delightful nooks and crannies of tranquillity, among the opulent large-scale vestibules. Be sure to seek out the oasis-like tropical pool area and spend an evening listening to international jazz musicians playing in The Living Room. There are 420 guest rooms decorated in traditional Thai style with silk, marble and teakwood, and with all mod cons to ensure optimum comfort.
