Nassau is the capital of the Bahamas and is home to most of the island group’s entire population. The city is found on New Providence. It’s often visited by cruise liners and holidaymakers seeking white sandy beaches and coral reefs conducive to snorkelling and diving. Founded and built in the 17th century (previously known as Charles Towne), it was once a haunt for pirates due to its lucrative trade route. The islands have since become a part of the commonwealth; Nassau’s low-rise British architecture features pretty pastel shades and makes for a lovely backdrop to this paradisiacal city.
Rosewood Baha Mar
One of three Baha Mar resorts, the Rosewood is arguably the most refined. It is found beside Cable Beach (upon which the Rosewood’s butlers will cater to your every need) and features plenty of local influences, notably handiworks incorporated into the hotel’s chic decor. The 12 storey property includes the Sense Spa, a British style library serving afternoon tea, Costa – a Mexican seafood eatery and taqueria – and a kids’ club. In addition to 233 balconied bedrooms and suites, accommodation is provided in villas. Guests can recline in a private pool-side cabana (complete with a ceiling fan and TV) and dine anywhere within the Baha Mar complex.
The Ocean Club, A Four Seasons Resort
Set on five miles of pure white beach, this playground for the elite has been hosting guests since 1962. Inspired by the Palace of Versailles, The Ocean Club is surrounded by carefully manicured gardens, which include its own golf course. Some areas are multi-tiered, bursting with colourful bougainvillaea, koi filled ponds and statues, proffering views of the city harbour. Guests can dine at the French-Asian Dune, the Western-style Caribbean Ocean or take lighter meals in the Dune Bar and imbibe Bond-style in the Martini Bar. There’s also a Balinese spa, three pools and a 12th-century cloister.
The Cove At Atlantis
A high rise (by Bahamian standards), glitzy complex, The Cove is an all-suite resort with 600 accommodations. Beside Paradise Beach, this is the place to be if you want amenities galore accessible via the wider Atlantis resort — particularly suiting fun-seeking families. It has a water park with 20 swimming areas, a nightclub, cinema, comedy club, a games room, the Mandarin Spa, a casino, golfing, scuba and snorkelling facilities and many restaurants, including the renowned, fine dining Nobu. The hotel itself houses three eateries; Fish by Chef Jose Andreas, Mosaic (a Mediterranean buffet) and The Cove Pool Café and Bar.
