Just in time for the lifting of lockdown, AIRE Ancient Baths are opening their first property on Robert Street, Central London. The new spa joins seven other AIRE locations in cities such as New York, Barcelona & Seville (read our guide to the best hotels in Seville) in aiming to bring the classical tradition of bathing that originated in the Greek and Roman empires forward into the 21st Century. Near to Covent Garden and Trafalgar Square, the historic building of No. 2-3 Robert Street is in the Adelphi area, the eighteenth-century neo-classical creation of the Adam brothers and once the home of J.M. Barrie, author of Peter Pan.
Visitors to the spa can expect an authentic classical bathing experience, as they move from the Tepidarium (warm water bath at a temperature of 36℃) to the Caldarium (40℃) and finally the Frigidarium (14℃). To more fully relax, guests may also indulge in the steam bath, known as the Vaporium, the Balneum or bath of a thousand jets, or the Flotarium, a salt bath. Lit by candlelight and totally silent save for soothing and ambient music, AIRE Ancient Baths truly is an oasis of calm in busy London.
